Twisting Through the Classics

The songs that filled the gymnasiums, the malt shops and the drive-ins — on the air twenty-four hours a day, with new songs, jingles and bits dropping in daily.

Reel 01 The Story

Fifty years in radio. Then the music stopped.

Vic Dubois spent more than fifty years in radio — the last twenty-four as General Manager at Saskatoon Media Group, running two FM stations and an AM. Before that he was a DJ, working his way from British Columbia through Alberta to Saskatoon.

For twenty-four of those years he hosted The Sunday Sockhop on 98Cool-FM — four hours, every week, of the music he grew up with. On December 31, 2025, the show signed off for good.

Then the letters came: “Where do we go for this now?”

Sock Hop Radio is his answer.

Reel 02 The Music

The heart of it is doo-wop and original rock & roll.

Nineteen-fifties, sixties and seventies — with the needle living between the mid-’50s and the mid-’60s. Every record is pulled by hand from Vic’s own collection.

The Heart

Mid-’50s → mid-’60s

Original rock & roll and doo-wop — the golden age, straight through.

The Range

’50s · ’60s · ’70s

Three decades deep, from street-corner harmony to surf and Motown.

The Method

Pulled by hand

No algorithm. One man’s record collection, played like a Saturday night.
If it sounds good, it goes on the air.
Vic’s only rule
